Brothers and sisters, we are living in a time of urgency. We are living in a time of spiritual crisis. We are living in a time close to midnight. “Wherefore, stand ye in holy places, and be not moved, until the day of the Lord come; for behold, it cometh quickly, saith the Lord.” (D&C 87:8.) I pray our Heavenly Father to daily assist us in our preparations that we may accumulate the oil of spirituality drop by drop, thought by thought, and act by act as we walk forward. The signs are available to us if we will but look.

Laborers are called to serve in the vineyards of the Lord—some as the sun rises, others as late as the eleventh hour, when there remains but little daylight. Their promised pay is a penny for the day, and yet each is paid the same. Those who bear the heat and burden of the day receive no more than the new converts who come into the kingdom during their latter years. (Matt. 20:1-16.) There is no mercenary calculation of payment scales in the celestial realms. The venerable apostle and the lowly elder each receives all that the Father hath if he magnifies his calling in the Holy Order. The seed of Cain, from whom the blessings of the priesthood and the fulness of the ordinances of the house of the Lord have been withheld for nearly six thousand years, shall now, in the eleventh hour, be paid their penny and enter into the fulness of reward hereafter. In the providences of the Lord, none of his ministers shall receive less than is promised, and none need feel that others of seemingly lesser service have been overpaid. There is no jealousy among those who abide the day of his coming and who sit down with him in his kingdom. **And he makes them equal in power, and in might, and in dominion.’’ (D&C 76:95.)

I wish to speak of the Savior’s parable in which a householder “went out early in the morning to hire labourers.” After employing the first group at 6:00 in the morning, he returned at 9:00 a.m., at 12:00 noon, and at 3:00 in the afternoon, hiring more workers as the urgency of the harvest increased. The scripture says he came back a final time, “about the eleventh hour” (approximately 5:00 p.m.), and hired a concluding number. ... So if you have made covenants, keep them. If you haven’t made them, make them. If you have made them and broken them, repent and repair them. It is never too late so long as the Master of the vineyard says there is time. Please listen to the prompting of the Holy Spirit telling you right now, this very moment, that you should accept the atoning gift of the Lord Jesus Christ and enjoy the fellowship of His labor. Don’t delay. It’s getting late.
