Wherefore, we again say, search the revelations of God: study the prophecies, and rejoice that God grants unto the world Seers and Prophets. They are they who saw the mysteries of godliness; they saw the flood before it came; they saw angels ascending and descending upon a ladder that reached from earth to heaven: they saw the stone cut out of the mountain, which filled the whole earth; they saw the Son of God come from the regions of bliss and dwell with men on earth; they saw the deliverer come out of Zion, and turn away ungodliness from Jacob; they saw the glory of the Lord when He showed the transfiguration of the earth on the mount; they saw every mountain laid low and every valley exalted when the Lord was taking vengeance upon the wicked; they saw truth spring out of the earth, and righteousness look down from heaven in the last days, before the Lord came the second time to gather His elect; they saw the end of wickedness on earth, and the Sabbath of creation crowned with peace; they saw the end of the glorious thousand years, when Satan was loosed for a little season; they saw the day of judgment when all men received according to their works, and they saw the heaven and earth flee away to make room for the city of God, when the righteous receive an inheritance in eternity. Being aware, thus, that the heavens and the earth, as they now are, shall be dissolved and that the very elements shall melt with fervent heat, we catch a new vision of what is meant by the prophetic word that the mountains shall melt at the Second Coming. Nahum says: ‘‘The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.”’ (Nahum 1:5.) ‘‘For, behold, the Lord cometh forth out of his place, and will come down, and tread upon the high places of the earth. And the mountains shall be molten under him, and the valleys shall be cleft, as wax before the fire, and as the waters that are poured down a steep place.”’ (Micah 1:3-4.) Our revelation, echoing the prayer found in chapter 64 of Isaiah, says that the servants of God in the last days will call upon the name of the Lord day and night in these words: ‘‘O that thou wouldst rend the heavens, that thou wouldst come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence.’’ They are answered that ‘‘the presence of the Lord shall be as the melting fire that burneth, and as the fire which causeth the waters to boil.’’ In their prayers the saints will say: ‘‘Yea, when thou comest down, and the mountains flow down at thy presence, thou shalt meet him who rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, who remembereth thee in thy ways.’’ (D&C 133:40-44.) And so Isaiah says: ‘‘Prepare ye the way of the Lord. . . . Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.’’ (Isa. 40: 3-5.) And so Zechariah says: ‘‘And the Lord shall be king over all the earth. . . . All the land shall be turned as a plain. . . . And men shall dwell in it, and there shall be no more utter destruction.”’ (Zech. 14:9-11.)
